Harry Gregg MBE was born on 27th October 1932. This year he will celebrate his 80th birthday. And at 80, let me tell you he is as alert and up to speed as anyone I know. I know for sure he would put me to shame in the fitness stakes.

The Carryduff Supporters of Manchester United were fortunate enough to meet Harry in March 2011 at the Europa Hotel. He loved the crowd so much he came back to see us again at the Ivanhoe Hotel in Carryduff and we had a wail of a time. The craic was good.

Nowadays, Harry enjoys regular walks on the beach near his home just outside Coleraine. He walks it for his family who are no longer with him, his wife told me. He's pretty handy around the house too, he has 2 acres of grass to cut during the summer and keeps his garden in great order.

As well as the household chores Harry gets the opportunity to tell his story to anyone who wants to listen. He is concious that there are people around him who may get bored and will often ask if this is the case. The frequent response is usually a silence as his audience just cannot wait for the next chapter to come from his mouth. He forgets nothing, has an opinion on everything and is as open and honest with his comments as the day is long.
